Hydro Active

In rural or urban areas, countless litres of freshwater get wasted every year. People spill water from bottles, overflowing tanks and buckets, contributing to the rapid depletion of the water cycle and climate change
Meet MA Sudarshan Rao, an 8th grade student of Kanshiramnagar Football Club Shri Shri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir. In the fight against water wastage, Sudarshan Rao accepts its challenges as a lone warrior, working to stir the people’s civic consciousness and help them save more water at home to conserve it for the future generations. He carried out a survey to understand people’s current awareness about water conservation, and filled any gaps in their understanding through door-to-door poster campaigns.
To help people keep track of their water wastage, he came up with a ‘water alarm’, an upcycled battery-operated circuit with a buzzer that alerts the home whenever water reaches the brim of a bucket. In 9 days, he single-handedly saved 90 litres of water. The young innovator also reached out to the Civic Commissioner, BWSSB through email with his suggestions and ideas to supplement their water conservation strategy.
