Overview
Community Policing (CP) promotes organisational strategies that support the systematic use of partnerships between citizens in a community and the local police in problem-solving techniques to address the conditions that give rise to public safety issues such as crime, social disorder, and fear of crime.
The Bengaluru City Police and Janaagraha formed a partnership in 2013 to pilot a CP program in seven police stations in Bengaluru, which expanded to 18 police stations by 2018. Overall, the police and citizen volunteers perceive improved relations and familiarity between citizens and the police.
Building on this, the Karnataka State Police wanted to better understand women’s perceptions of Karnataka. So we conducted a series of research projects which evaluated the Community Policing program operated by the Bengaluru City Police, measuring women’s safety and security perceptions in Mysore and Hubli-Dharwad.
