Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Mr Akshy Shridhar launched the two-week MyCityMyBudget campaign on January 19, 2021, collaborating with Janaagraha. The campaign elicited citizen inputs for the city’s municipal budget. In addition, it enabled councillors to consider citizen priorities for ward developmental plans before the city municipal budget the last week of January 2021.
Digitally, a dedicated microsite on Janaagraha, WhatsApp and Facebook collected citizen budget inputs. The on-ground campaign was executed through a bilingual survey questionnaire, in Kannada and English, for the citizens to list out to seven critical infrastructural needs in their wards. In addition, extensive public engagement with the help of community leaders, NGOs, and other citizen stakeholders helped the first MCMB Mangaluru gather significant momentum, thus setting the ground for future events.
